RZR, Ranger & Sportsman ECU Upgrade:

MPI has the worlds only high performance tuning available for Polaris ATVs and UTVs. We took our 20+ years of electronics knowledge and engineered an improved program for all Polaris units. Due to the high cost of the base ECU, we offer a programming service to update your factory box.

 

MPI also offers an enhanced "Piggy-back" fuel tuning module which we typically use in a boosted application such as Supercharging. Piggy-back controllers offer easy user fine tuning and make a lot of sense to customize your fuel curve.

 

The only way, however, to alter ignition timing and rev limiters is to replace the factory ECU or reprogram it. It has not been common place to replace the entire fuel injection / timing control on a vehicle due to cost and the integrated nature of the factory module.

 

This leaves only one viable option for ignition; Let MPI reprogram your unit.

 

Our standard tune up includes increasing the rev limiter to 7000 rpm (stock RZR 6500, stock Ranger 6100 high gear, 5900 low/neutral). We optimized the fuel & ignition curves to remove torque limiting and drivability glitches. These improvements are part throttle drivability gains that are noticed at less than full throttle. The base MPI programs have also changed the fuel curve to to give you an efficient 13.2:1 Air Fuel Ratio. We found the factory programming to be a bit fat on the top end on most models. These corrections are obvious with an air fuel gauge, but you are unlikely to see much advantage in out and out performance on stock RZR units. We see definite gains on many Sportsman models and Ranger models. Please consult your dealer for your expected performance improvements.

 

Our private label series is what most customers should be looking for if their unit is modified. We allow a reseller to develop a group of improvements such as clutching, exhaust and intake modifications and couple these mods with proper tuning to produce a huge improvement in performance. A package that without proper ECM tuning would be almost worthless.

 

The results on the RZR with added horsepower potential like compression or a super or turbo charger are simply amazing. There is no doubt in your mind that MPI did its homework the minute you plug in your new box. You will experience better acceleration and a higher top speed. Gains that could not be realized without corrected tuning.

 

The base MPI program does NOT have aggressive timing, nor does it have radical fuel changes. The largest changes in the basic MPI program is the Rev limit change. If your unit is not capable of hitting the rev limiter now, you will not expect to experience much gain with the base MPI reprogram.

 

Many of our Private label customers have optimized their programs to work with specific options and have tunes that will work well and show improvements on basically stock units to full mod units. Please see our private label resellers for more aggressive and customized tuning options.

 

 

We have dealt  with a few inexperienced and very misinformed customers (eg Evans) that made some basic mistakes, we hope that sharing these mistakes will help future customers.  Here are a few examples:

 

1. Customer installs larger than stock tires and expects to not experience a performance loss. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO INCREASE TIRE SIZE AND WEIGHT ON A STOCK UNIT AND NOT SUFFER A LOSS IN PERFORMANCE

 

2. Customer purchases an ECU modification from MPI or a Custom Program from one of MPI's private label resellers and couples this ECU with other vehicle changes that have not been accounted for in the program. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO PURCHASE GENERIC HIGH PERFORMANCE TUNING THAT WILL WORK WITH ANY TYPE OF MODIFICATION.

 

3. Customer has made clutch modifications that appeared to not hurt (but definitely did not help) the unit. No the customer adds our ECU mod and does not get the expected results. AGAIN, EVERYTHING EFFECTS EVERYTHING ESPECIALLY IN A FUEL INJECTED CVT CLUTCH TYPE UNIT. IF THE PROGRAMMING IS FOR A STOCK UNIT, PLEASE USE IT ON A STOCK UNIT.

 

4. We have found that a stock RZR at Sea Level WILL HIT the rev limiter. However, many companies are selling modifications that actually hurt the performance and once these mods are installed the factory RZR will not go as fast. IF YOUR UNIT IS NOT HITTING THE REV LIMITER, raising the REV LIMIT WILL NOT HELP YOU. GO BACK 1st AND FIX WHAT WAS BROKEN (returning to stock often helps).

 

5. We are not special, if our stock units hit the rev limiter, why doesn't yours???

Rhino Standard & Supercharged Ignition CDI:

We teamed up with the world leader in ATV & Motorcycle ignition to bring you what we here at MPI believe is the best CDI on the market for the Yamaha Rhino. Dynatek did their home work for the base normally aspirated Rhino. MPI modified the timing curve above 7800 RPM for Supercharger application. The result is a performance CDI that works as well as the base DynaTek unit on stock motors because they are not capable of revving much beyond 7800 rpm. After 8000 rpm the Supercharger magic starts. We begin retarding the timing gradually until the 9000 rpm rev limiter kicks in. The result on your supercharged unit is more horsepower due to the retarded timing (allows the supercharger to "blow" more are and fuel into the cylinder before the fire is started) and it also helps prevent detonation.
